Who I am

Maja Tønning
Owner of Yoga&,
Holistic Yoga Flow instructor, yoga practitioner of 15 years, background in humanitarian work.
Master of Science (MSc) in Social Sciences in Human Security.

I have been practicing yoga for over 15 years, across Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Yin traditions, including a physical yoga practice, meditation, and breathwork practices. My certified yoga teacher trainings (CYT) focus on Hatha & Vinyasa Holistic Flow Yoga, Yin & Restorative Yoga, and Pre-natal Yoga. I have engaged in further studies on yoga philosophy, breathwork, meditation, nervous system regulation, and trauma-oriented approaches, which help form the backbone of my teaching.

My classes combine flow, strength, and softness—always with space for students to meet themselves where they are. I integrate yoga philosophy, meditation, and nervous system practices into sequences that aim to ground, balance, and expand.

Living with Fibromyalgia

I am living with a fibromyalgia diagnosis (nervous system dysfunction), which is shaping not only my personal practice, but also how I teach. I know what it means to live in a body that carries tension, fatigue, and pain—and how small shifts in movement, breath, and awareness can bring relief and resilience.

This experience has led me to a deep interest in the nervous system and its role in how we feel, heal, and live. Through courses in nervous system regulation and trauma-sensitive approaches, she introduces tools to support students in finding balance, whether they need energy, calm, or simply a safe space to be.

A Background in Humanitarian Work

Before creating Yoga&, I spent a decade working in the humanitarian sector in countries across the world. I have my background in Anthropology, Environmental Management, and Conflict Analysis. This background has brought both social justice issues and the climate crisis to the heart of my areas of interest. Additionally, I have designed and facilitated numerous workshops in my workplace and am skilled in holding space for diverse groups. That work also taught me to listen deeply, to value difference, and to create spaces of trust, even in difficult times.

The Intention Behind Yoga&

Yoga is not just movement for me; it's a practice of care, connection, and remembering our shared humanity. Yoga& is a space where all of these threads come together: the ancient wisdom of yoga, the lived experiences, the science of the nervous system, and a commitment to human connection.

My intention is simple: to offer practices that help us feel more at home in our bodies, more steady in our minds, and more connected to each other and the world around us.
